Today I was asked to join host Brian Powers on 106.1 BOB FM for the Homegrown Show on Sunday, February 10th, 2019. Join us LIVE on Facebook worldwide or Live On-Air on 106.1 in the Twin Cities from 5-6pm CST.
I’ll be sharing about my journey in the music business and my approach to original songwriting, as well as performing some of my favorite songs that will be included on my upcoming album, being recorded (at my own damned Maverick pace π) with my dear friend, Kyle Primus, of Inside Insomnia Productions. Here’s a sample of what we’ve been working on:
I hope that you join me for these special events; I’m so excited to share them with y’all!
I just found out I am nominated in the Maverick Category for the Midwest Country Music Association’s 1st Annual Awards Show, which will be held at Medina Entertainment Center in Medina, MN on February 17th, 2019. Tickets are available HERE!
This is such an honor for me and as I write this post, it feels as though my heart is going to explode and my fingers are shaking so badly it is difficult to type!
I was lucky enough to be part of the winning band at the inaugural Midwest CMA’s 80’s themed Mix-Up! What a blast! [From Left to Right: Kevin Qualy-guitar/vox, Lindsay Olson-vox, Donnie Doyle-drums, Shane Martin-guitar/vox, Swanny Rose-vox/hand perc, Matt Huttner-bass/vox. Photo by: Jenny Phillips of Creative JAM.]Here’s the short version of my story:
At the ripe old age of 35 (just kidding, I won’t complain about my age!), I recently completed around 32 years of performing in the creative arts. I started as a ballerina in my birth state of Rhode Island and my path slowly lead to music, which has now been my career for around the last 10 years.
I’ve been blessed to dance, sing, choreograph, record and play with so many talented and amazing artists (I literally can’t even count them all). I’ve also had the chance to perform at some truly amazing venues for wonderful audiences all over the Midwest, and have made incredible friendships with fans, colleagues, and venue staff and owners.
While it’s not a glamorous life like some might think, I am able to support a modest lifestyle while doing what I love. The best part is that I get to share it with others who love creativity as much as I do. And the constant support of my craft from others is an honor I do not take lightly.
Thank you to everyone who nominated me for this very special award. And thank you, as always, for supporting independent artists!
XOXO’S Love, Swanny Rose β
PS. One of my duet partners, Joe Flip, and my former band, Girls Night Out: A Tribute To The Superstar Women of Women Of Country were also nominated! Congratulations to them all!
PPS. Make sure to BUY TICKETS to the awards show. Over 30 Midwest CMA members will be performing live! That’s a whole lotta talent, and I promise…it’s going to be spectacular!Β π
I’ve learned an amazing lesson over the years, the impact of which seems to have intensified recently to my great surprise and satisfaction…
The lesson?
It’s far more valuable to celebrate and involve yourself with the people, places and activities you are passionate about if you’re seeking real success. Doing what you love is much like wearing a fantastic outfit or having a great hair day…when you look and feel good people notice you and will gradually want to see more. Doing something you dislike or maintaining a relationship out of a sense of obligation will merely make you unhappy, and you won’t be the only one who notices your discomfort.
While there has been my fair share of “ugly” days where nothing seemed possible, I have spent the year focusing on the things I love most, which include writing songs (especially silly ones) and performing them live for audiences everywhere. It’s been a total blast, and I’ve enjoyed my adventures and meeting a ton of new people!
Because of the effort put forth in “getting myself out there” as a Singer-Songwriter again, I was greatly blessed to share my songs at The Cedar Cultural Center on Halloween night this year, as the opening guest for folk legend LoudonWainright III.
Here is a small snippet of a very special song from that evening celebrating my love of: writing and singing silly songs, Jameson Irish Whiskey, live performance, and making others laugh!
Please enjoy “Ode to Jameson” (aka “Jamey”) by Swanny Rose. Hey…Jameson Irish Whiskey…call me if you need a hott new jingle!! π ‡
Thanks for watching, commenting, sharing and for all of your support for live music!
I’ve had such an incredible year and can’t wait for more changes to come my way in 2019! Here’s a few highlights:
I’ve lost 25 pounds and gained a new healthier mindset, I performed with folk legend Loudon Wainright III at the Cedar Cultural Center, I found out my brother (best man at my wedding) is engaged and planning his own marriage, I began writing and performing…AND recording…my original music again after a very long hiatus, I joined a great new band and formed a really special new band of my own, I rediscovered my passion for cooking and my kitchen and freezer are feeling the love, I lost a best buddy to pet heaven, performed at the BUZ’N 102.9 (now, The Wolf 102.9) stage at The Minnesota State Fair, I played track shows for the first time with a new duet partner and made great strides with my husband and wife duo, I joined the awesome non-profit, volunteer-run Midwest Country Music Association which has been a true blessing in my career, made a ton of new friends and grew my personal and business networks, and generally found out that despite dealing with regular challenges that everyone faces, my life is pretty amazing and I am lucky to be living it. Thank you to everyone who has helped make it wonderful!

It’s been quite a year for me, and I’m so excited to add RECORDING MY ORIGINAL SONGS to the amazing adventure that has been 2018.
I started with 4 of my favorite songs (Golf Cart Ride, Why The Hell Can’t I?, My Pearl, and A Parent’s Prayer) this past weekend with my good friend Kyle Primus (and his snuggly and adorable assistant, Tito the Chihuahua) at Inside Insomnia Productions.
My amazing husband, Matt Huttner (who is the most awesome support team and my bass player) also added his flavor to the tracks and hopefully this weekend I’ll be adding the backbeat with my drummer, Donnie Doyle.
Here’s a snippet of my epic 6:30 song called “My Pearl” for your enjoyment. Stay tuned for more!
Thank you to everyone who supports independent artists! We appreciate you so very, very much! If you want to donate to help support the costs of producing and releasing this album please visit the Donate Tab to make a secure contribution via PayPal.
I’ve had so many wonderful changes, experiences and achievements in my life this year I often feel like it isn’t even really happening to me! There’s never been a chapter of my journey on this sea of life that has wowed me quite so much, and it feels like the wave isn’t stopping anytime soon! I’m so thankful for this ride and I can’t wait for the adventure to continue!
I’m most grateful for all of the humans (friends, family, colleagues, strangers) who are continuing to help me grow and learn in both my personal life and business endeavors. I’m also constantly amazed with allΒ the love and support I’ve felt in pursuing my dream of performing my own original music!
I figured since its Thanksgiving Weekend here in the US, I’ll share a few of my favorite moments that I’m grateful for from 2018:
βOpening For Loudon Wainright III at the beautiful Cedar Cultural Center in Uptown, Minneapolis…
βSongwriters Showcases where I’ve performed with uber talented folks from all over the Twin Cities and beyond, at all sorts of awesome new venues, where I’ve met absolutely incredible new fans and friends…
MY FIRST ALL ORIGINAL FULL BAND SWANNY ROSE SHOW ‡‡‡‡‡‡‡
That’s Erica Hanson in the middle and our good friend Karina Kern on the left ‡
βMy Hubby and the best dang duet/life partner a girl could ever ask for…
βAll the time I get to spend in nature playing music, gathering inspiration, breathing fresh air and enjoying all of the beauty in this creation we all share…
βAll the amazing musicians I’ve had the privilege of performing with who continue to inspire my heart with their passion and talent…
Hope everyone is taking a moment to reflect on their lives – not just because it’s Thanksgiving – but simply because it’s a miracle we woke up and had the opportunity to live one more day. Sending so much love to you all!
Holy SH*T…. I’m opening for Loudon Wainright III tomorrow night at The Cedar Cultural Center!
This incredible news has been sinking in slowly since the email I received a couple weeks ago said Loudon’s management had chosen me as his counterpart for a Halloween night show! I almost didn’t believe it… seriously! He’s so funny and writes amazing songs, and I am beyond honored and excited to share the evening and the stage with him.
While I’ve had the privelegde of playing alongside some amazing acts in the past with my former bands (including Eddie Money, Kat Perkins, Candlebox and Smash Mouth), something about this show is positively freaking me out… I’ll be up there alone showcasing MY songs, with just MY voice and MY guitar!!! It’s pretty terrifying, but I know once it’s over I will have a smile that’ll last me through New Years Eve (at least)!
I just want to extend a big giant Thank You to EVERYONE who has made this moment possible for me through your support, love, money, lessons, time, energy and more. There’s too many of you to name, but know that I carry you all forever in my mind, and sing with my whole heart and soul for each one of you at every show.
Here’s the write up for tomorrow’s show in the City Pages…
And the write up in the Star Tribune… (Thanks for sharing this Donnie Doyle!)
I promise you will not regret buying tickets to this show… Loudon will make you laugh, cry, and laugh so hard that you cry… and I hope I can do the same!
