Well, we all know 2020 has been bizarre and our “regular” lives are all quite beyond recognition, but I am of the belief that we all have (or can) benefit in some way from the Covid-19 experience felt the world over; that somehow or another, we can still gain that new perspective, that elusive 20/20 vision, so to speak.
Personally, I’ve been on a performance hiatus – with the exception of a few streams on Facebook and a couple of live shows – but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been creating. In fact, I would have absolutely gone mad without my creative outlets.
Throughout 2020 I’ve been spending my time cooking for my family,
baking all sorts of delicious treats,
taking lots of pictures of beautiful things in nature,
and appreciating every single day of the season changes.
I’ve also been writing a ton of new original songs, playing with some sewing projects, and working on the initial brainstorming for some books I’ve been dreaming about for years.
One of my favorite challenges and fun musical endeavors has been recording imperfect “a capella kitchen versions” of songs on a super primitive app on my phone. Most have around 9 vocal tracks all recorded off of one scratch track that isn’t even in the final product! Plus, you can’t hear any of your previously recorded tracks, so it’s a bit difficult to even get it “close enough.”
I mean seriously, we literally had temperatures between the 50s and the 80s, and then it SNOWed yesterday. Sheesh, so much for fall! 🤣
Hope everyone is tapping into their deeper selves today and doing something to grow your mind, heart and soul. Be well and be kind to one another so we can all make 2021 the best year of our (collective) lives.
Hey Fan-mily! As many of you know, I have not been performing during the Covid-19 shutdown. And despite venues re-opening, there are but a few in Minnesota that are including live music in their process. So, in an effort to stay sane, I’ve been indulging in my other creative habits.
In particular I love cooking, so I’ve had fun trying new recipes or making creations from my imagination. I shared more about this in my previous blog post, but here’s a pic for fun ⤵️
I randomly decided to make a pair of jeans into a skirt since they weren’t fitting well anymore. Its all hand sewn–which was interesting (aka kind of hilarious) since I never sew–and that went decently well. I haven’t worn it and likely wont due to the sizing issue. However, it was a fun experiment and maybe I’ll pass it along to a friend if they don’t mind my jaggedly sewn lines which will hopefully look better as the frayed edges creep closer. #needtofixmysewingmachine
I also saved a long t-shirt that had belt holes from getting tossed by shredding tassels in the front and back. This one I wore recently and while it’s not totally perfect, I’m pleased with the results so far.
Somewhere along the way I finally found motivation to play with my garden. I had put it off for months, despite my intention to plant earlier this year. I typically plant in pots or large containers, which is my preferred method as a renter.
I’m so excited to announce that my very first jalapeno peppers are sprouting. I don’t really like to brag, but I’m proud to say that I actually kept this plant alive from last summer. It flowered indoors in late spring, but it really needed to be returned outside to the heat and given a little mulch to start producing this year. This plant pumped out the peppers last year, so I’m hoping for another successful season, especially because I want to try my hand at pickling and canning them this year! #wastenotwantnot #feelinghothothot
Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the hot summer. I’d love to hear about your creative endeavors, too…please leave a comment to tell me about them!
Be sure to like, share and subscribe! Thank you always for the support Fan-mily!
I just wanted to pop in here quickly and extend a HUGE thank you to all the folks who have supported me in various ways throughout the extremely strange year we are all experiencing. As a creative, its been particularly difficult to have my passion halted unexpectedly, especially since it’s also the source of my income.
So thank you to all of the folks who have:
followed me on social media,
sent donations to my PayPal or Venmo,
sent loving and supportive messages,
listened to me on the radio,
purchased or streamed my singer-songwriter singles or my instrumental EP,
and liked, shared or commented on my posts.
Also, if you’ve ever thrown up a prayer/good thoughts for me, I deeply appreciate it. I’ve got one for you, too.
You are all a source of sunshine in my life and I am grateful for you! The song below (“You Are My Sunshine” A Capella Version by Swanny Rose) is dedicated to you, my Friends, Family and Fans 💞💞💞
Hey humans of the world! I’ve missed you all and am excited to share this update. It turns out that amidst all the happenings of 2020, I’ve been doing some changing of my own.
For the last few years, right up to the Covid shutdown in March of 2020, I had been going hard. I rarely took breaks, I rarely had an open weekend or spent time with my family, and I hadn’t truly taken the time to reassess my actual needs or wants as a human, woman, friend, family member or wife in what feels like eons. To put it bluntly, I was exhausted and severely out of touch, despite the joys of hitting so many high notes in my creative career.
And anyways, let’s face it… career success is only a portion of leading a successful life. If you are lacking in other ways, it will begin to show. While you may not notice, chances are, the people who love and care about you will probably see the chaos embroiled inside or possibly leaking outside of you. Thankfully, my ‘people’ are kind, loving and understanding, so I’m happy to report that as the world is slowly re-opening, I am slowly reincorporating myself back into my whole life, rather than just my ‘job’ life.
You may be wondering, ‘What does that look like?’ To be completely honest, I’m not sure, but I am trying to give myself grace to discover what it will look like, both for the long and short term.
A few items of note:
🌟 I’ve spent more quality time with my husband and our families and have especially enjoyed playing with my adorable nieces and nephews. I even helped set up new furniture with my brother for his new home, which was an awesome experience. This is stirring up longing for a family of my own, so a tiny RoseBud may be in my future sooner rather than later. We shall see!
🌟 I’ve been cooking a lot (as always), and baking a ton (this is new), and enjoying my free time trying new recipes. This week’s adventure will include a no-bake key lime cheesecake that I am so stoked to make! I’m even going to make my own sweetened condensed milk for the recipe!! Some other yummies I’ve made include a lemon-ricotta cheesecake, rice krispie bars, and a banana cake that I decorated with a banana-slice flower. I’ve been working on perfecting my egg-cooking, but I’ll be damned! For some reason its so difficult for me and I just don’t have the kind of consistency I want yet. And I’m thinking this might just be a lifelong battle! Lol! On the other hand, my steak cooking is getting to be pretty exceptional and that’s exciting!
🌟 As for my musical journey, I’ve spent countless hours mixing both singer-songwriter and instrumental tunes I had previously recorded. With the unexpected time off, I’ve been able to approach these songs with fresh eyes and ears and it has truly been a blessing in disguise. I would never have been able to dedicate time to them with my old routine. As soon as they are ‘right’ I’ll be releasing them for purchase and streaming. This has been a fun learning experience and I hope that everyone enjoys the fruits of my labor.
🌟 Obviously live shows were off the menu during the shutdown, and thanks to the unexpected break, I have decided to cut way back on my bookings for the remainder of the year. I have some shows that are still on the calendar, but this is a big area I am exploring and reassessing. I’ve been reluctant to admit it, but I’m enjoying the ‘normal’ hours I’ve been following and going back to working late nights and weekends just doesn’t feel as exciting for me. (I must be getting old. Lol!) My intention is to move the majority of my performances to online forums and do more regularly scheduled shows for tips, likely via YouTube, Twitch, Instagram or Facebook. I have a Patreon page as well (you can become a paid subscriber for exclusive content at various levels), but haven’t completely committed to a format I’m comfortable with just yet, therefore it remains unpublished.
🌟 I want to continue to grow my Swanny Rose KIDS Show, so if you’re interested in hiring me to play fun and kid-friendly music (both original songs and classic and modern faves) please contact me at your convenience. I will be developing a more consistent online program for your kids to follow as well. Now you can enjoy a picture of me as a kid with my Mom and Brothers doing a favorite family activity – hiking! Judging by this photo, we were probably tired of my Dad taking pictures. Lol!
🌟 I am also interested in offering more ‘services’ to my fan-base and clients including jingle-writing/advertising, singing telegrams and personalized songs. I really want the opportunity to connect with folks in a more personal way and to support their individual needs. Plus, the challenge of creating for others is always inspirational and fun for me.
🌟 I have been walking almost every day and have been focusing on connecting with myself through excercise and spending time in nature. It was absolutely amazing this year to experience the blooming and budding during spring and watch the literal daily transformation into summer. I loved taking pictures of particularly beautiful plants and animals, and I’m looking forward to seeing the progress into fall. In truth I’d rather have 70 degrees farenheit in perpetuity, but I’m in Minnesota, so I’ll just accept the insane weather and move on.
🌟 I have a few other concepts I’m developing that I hope to reveal soon. None of them involves music, and I’m super excited to share them with you once everything is in place. Keep your eyes peeled. And no, its NOT drawing, painting, etc. See the evidence below for why I stay away from those types of artistic mediums. Ha!
Thanks for reading friends, family and fans! I hope life is treating you well, and if you’re going through a rough moment, know that I’m thinking of you and sending you a Huge Hug!!! Keep on smiling!

I often feel I am dreaming, but I am fully aware of the absolute blessing it is to be able to perform for a living. I could not do it without your generous financial contributions (booking shows via swannyrose.com/contact, leaving tips @ swannyrose.com/support), your copious amounts of encouragement, requests, clapping and cheers, and most important of all – your love.
Here’s some more memories…and make sure to watch the original show in the link above!

THANK YOU FAN-MILY for supporting me through the years! You rock!
So its been one crazy year, and I’ve had an especially busy summer, but it culminated in one very special showcase at 102.9 The Wolf’s booth at The Minnesota State Fair — a massive amalgamation of crunchy, greasy, and ooey-gooey foods-on-stick, craft everything from beers to blankets, talented local and national musicians on practically every corner, plenty of vomit-inducing carnival rides and the most amazing people watching on planet Earth — where they smashed attendance records for 2019.
I was feeling so lucky to be a part of this blue-ribbon season with my return to the 102.9 The Wolf Stage. My dear friend DJ PT – Paul Thomas debuted my first single released on their station just in time for Fair Promo on the Hometown Country Show! I finally got to hear my beautiful song live on the radio!
It was also an honor to have the evening hosted by the one and only DJ Mandy James. Apparently I’m the first artist she met in MN and it was her one year anniversary of getting hired at the station. A cool moment in her-story for sure!
In keeping with the first ever Swanny Rose original release, I played 15 of my original compositions at The Minnesota State Fair and enjoyed every second of sharing my creations! Some songs I played for the 200th or so time, others were debuted right there on that stage. The best part was having my very best friends (and their adorable kids) and my amazing family there to support me. 💖 Thanks SO MUCH to those people, who ought to know who they are!
And after all the #musiconastick, its time to toast the fall weather moving in, maybe with a little apple cider?! I’m getting ready for what’s becoming an annual show at Pleasant Valley Orchard on September 14th. Join me for two different shows (rain or shine – music is under a tent): 1-4pm will be a mix between my KIDS Show and my usual set, geared more toward families. From 5-7pm I will be showcasing more adult-friendly music (but please don’t worry, it’ll still be ok for the kids! 😉) I’m super excited to perform and then take home a bag of apples to cook copious amounts of my homemade applesauce!
What’s your favorite Fall activity? Share in the comments! ⤵⤵
Yesterday was an actual “Stormy Monday” here in Minnesota. We had several downpours with lightning and thunder and many of the communities nearby (including mine) had lots of hail, with reports of some pieces being as big as a lime!
This sampling of hail came from my Father’s company about 10 minutes from my home. I’m feeling pretty bad for all the folks who ended up with cracked windshields, dimpled and dented cars and ruined siding and roofing on their houses. I’m sure there’ll be lots of calls to insurance companies in the next few days!
Fortunately, the cure to all ailments (in my opinion), is a good old fashioned dose of music. So here is a clip of me singing “Stormy Monday” by The Allman Bros. at Brookside Bar and Grill in Marine on St. Croix, MN from a few weeks ago. I’m joined by one of my duet partners, Joe Flip, as well as our guest, Dave, who rips up a harmonica solo. Enjoy!
